Happy Birthday!!

Just remembered that today is Edward Bach’s birthday. Better late than never to send a birthday greeting and to recall the debt of gratitude we owe him.

Impatiens Flowers

Why is Impatiens so successful? It’s because of the bees! The flower offers nectar and pollen and in exchange the bees give 100% pollination. That translates into 5 seeds in every seedpod and every seed will germinate and grow. The result? A population explosion. Impatiens is seen as an invasive alien plant by some in the UK which must be sprayed with weed-killer. But what would take its place on the riverbank? Plants which do not offer such a rich harvest to the bees. And bee populations are declining. Why? The biggest threat to bees may be the loss of wildflowers for forage. But the other great danger is chemicals used in the farming industry.
